Ebonyi to Build 65 Bungalows for Widows Across 13 LGAs

The Ebonyi State Government has approved the construction of 65 housing units of three-bedroom bungalows for widows across the state.

The project marks the second phase of the Widows’ Housing Scheme initiated by the wife of the Governor, in line with Governor Francis Nwifuru’s vision anchored on the People’s Charter of Needs.

According to the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Barrister Ikeuwa Omebe, the State Executive Council granted approval for the commencement of all necessary processes for awarding the construction contracts.

Omebe told journalists after the Council’s meeting at the New Government House, Abakaliki, that the project would benefit 65 widows, with five beneficiaries from each of the 13 local government areas.

He added that the housing units would be executed under the Community Charter of Needs (CCD) framework.

The Commissioner also disclosed that the Council, after deliberating on the progress report of the Izzo/Amaeze Housing Project, constituted a seven-man committee to ensure its completion within two weeks.

On the state’s 1.5MW Independent Power Plant project, Omebe said the Council resolved to invite the contractor to its next meeting for further clarification.

He further noted that the Council directed that all already installed facilities for the provision of wireless internet services across selected locations in the state be test-run to ensure efficiency and quality before the final handover of the project.
