Djokovic set for Shanghai return next month in what will be his first tournament since his U.S. Open semi-final defeat to Carlos Alcaraz, organisers of the Masters event announced.
The Serb, a four-time winner of the event, will be making his 14th main-draw appearance as he seeks to end the season strongly after being denied Grand Slam titles this year by Alcaraz and world number two Jannik Sinner.
“He’s back. Our four-time champ, @DjokerNole will return to Shanghai this year,” the tournament posted on social media.

Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, has found it difficult to overcome the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner over the last two seasons. However, he noted during the U.S. Open in New York that best-of-three set matches, such as those on the ATP Tour, offer him a better chance of success.
The 38-year-old reached the final in Shanghai last year, where he lost to Sinner in straight sets. This year’s tournament is scheduled to run from October 1 to 12.
