AGN Celebrates Segun Arinze at 60

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has paid glowing tributes to veteran Nollywood actor and former national president of the guild, Segun Arinze, as he marked his 60th birthday.

In an interview on Wednesday in Abuja, the guild’s National Secretary, Abubakar Yakubu, described the milestone as an opportunity to honour Arinze for his outstanding contributions to the Nigerian film industry.

“On behalf of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, its leadership, the BOT, and all members, I wish Segun Arinze a happy 60th birthday,” Yakubu said. “It’s a landmark celebration. He has devoted much of his life to Nollywood and served our noble guild with distinction. He is a humble, selfless professional who has mentored many actors and continues to inspire others.”

Arinze, fondly called Black Arrow after his memorable role in the 1996 Nollywood classic Silent Night, took to Instagram earlier to express gratitude to his family, friends, and colleagues.

“Today, as I turn 60, my heart is full of gratitude. 60 years on this journey called life, and I can boldly say it has been God’s grace all the way,” he wrote. He thanked his wife and children “for being my anchor, my safe place, and my greatest cheerleaders,” and appreciated friends and colleagues in the creative industry for being part of his journey.

“This milestone is not just about me; it’s about all of us who have walked this path together. I celebrate you as much as I celebrate myself,” he added.

Born on September 24, 1965, Arinze began his career as both a singer and an actor. His debut album Dream introduced him to the entertainment scene, though it was not a major commercial success. Over the years, he has become one of Nollywood’s most respected figures, appearing in more than 100 films.

Beyond acting, Arinze is an acting coach and plays an active role in grooming the next generation of talent through his work with a prestigious African international film festival.
