Senator Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, Minister of Transportation, has resigned from the Federal Executive Council in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees seeking elective office in the 2027 general elections to step down by 31 March 2026.
Alkali met with President Tinubu at the State House on Tuesday for a private meeting, a development believed to have preceded his decision to resign.
His resignation was later confirmed to news men Tuesday evening.
Following his departure from office, Alkali is now set to contest for the Gombe State governorship seat in the 2027 elections.
With his resignation, he joins other cabinet members who have stepped down to pursue political ambitions, including Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Yusuf Tanko Sununu, former Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
