Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation has commended the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the newly inaugurated Creative Media Sector Skills Council (CMSSC) for their efforts in advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria.

The Minister gave the commendation while receiving the Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof. Idris Bugaje, alongside members of the CMSSC, who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

He praised the NBTE for its tireless contributions, particularly through the Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework and, more recently, the inauguration of the sectoral council. According to him, the new Creative Media Sector Skills Council, which brings together key private sector players and public institutions, will help address the skills gap in one of the most dynamic sectors of the Nigerian economy.

“At the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, we are delighted about this initiative and will fully support it. Well-trained and certified media professionals will not only raise the standard of our broadcast content but also strengthen media literacy, combat misinformation, and project Nigeria’s image positively both at home and abroad,” he stated.

He further noted that the work of NBTE and the CMSSC aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, as well as the Ministry’s five-pillar agenda. He explained that Pillar Four focuses on modernising technology and talent, while Pillar Five seeks to create and sustain an enabling environment for media practice in Nigeria.

The Minister stressed that President Tinubu envisions a Nigeria where the creative and broadcast media workforce is globally competitive, nationally certified, and contributes meaningfully to job creation, economic growth, and national cohesion.
