Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting fundamental human rights, and ensuring that all citizens irrespective of political affiliation are able to participate fully in the democratic process.

In a Democracy Day message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, and made available to journalists on Thursday, Governor Fubara reiterated his administration’s resolve to safeguard lives and property through effective security measures.

He pledged to continue defending the interests of the state while maintaining a government guided by the principles of inclusivity, transparency, and accountability.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, Fubara called for collaboration across party lines to foster a society in which every citizen is heard, empowered to fulfil their potential, and encouraged to contribute meaningfully to collective progress.

The governor acknowledged the recent political upheaval in Rivers State, which disrupted democratic governance, noting that it served as a stark reminder of the fragility of democracy.

He stressed that democracy must be actively nurtured and protected to preserve its strength and relevance.

Governor Fubara noted that the state’s democratic journey has included both triumphs and trials, each reinforcing the importance of remaining faithful to democratic ideals.

He stated that his administration has prioritised fairness and openness, defended civil liberties, and implemented mechanisms to ensure effective oversight.

He emphasised that deliberate policies have been pursued to promote inclusiveness, accountability, and transparency key pillars for sustaining democracy for future generations.

He encouraged every individual to take an active role in building a peaceful and united society—one anchored in healing, mutual understanding, and a shared vision for sustainable development.

The governor also paid tribute to past leaders whose efforts and sacrifices, he said, laid the foundation for today’s democracy.

He called on the people to build on these democratic gains and work towards transforming Rivers State into one that serves all its inhabitants equitably.

Fubara further noted that the struggles endured on the path to democracy should inspire continued reverence for the legacy of those who championed democratic values, and a renewed commitment to the ideals for which they stood.

He urged the people of Rivers State to act with patriotism, dedication, and responsibility, describing the present moment as a call to action one that demands the collective creativity, resilience, and determination of all citizens to navigate future challenges.

Expressing confidence in the state’s trajectory, Fubara declared that Rivers State would emerge stronger and more unified. He appealed to all citizens to contribute actively to building a society where every individual has the opportunity to participate meaningfully in the state’s progress.
