Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on Friday inaugurated the Enugu State Human Development Council at the Government House, underscoring human capital as the nation’s true wealth and a central focus of his administration.

The Council is chaired by the Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai, and comprises members of the State Executive Council, heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as representatives from the legislature, local government councils, traditional institutions, religious leaders, and civil society organisations.

Governor Mbah stated that the establishment of the Council reflects his government’s commitment to human development and social investment.

He urged members to approach their responsibilities with seriousness and strive for measurable, impactful outcomes.

“One of our top priorities is the eradication of poverty and bringing the poverty headcount to zero,” Mbah said.

He added that his administration places greater value on human capital than on natural resources.

“Our last two budgets allocated over 50 per cent to social services,” he noted.

In his remarks, Deputy Governor Ossai assured the governor of the Council’s dedication to achieving its objectives.

He reiterated that all government projects whether in education, infrastructure, or other sectors are centred on improving the lives of the people.

“All our initiatives are people-oriented, and this Council will play a key role in tracking and assessing our progress,” Ossai affirmed.
