A high-level delegation from the Federal Ministry of Defence has visited Borno State to assess the security situation and engage with state leadership on the ongoing challenges in the region.

The delegation, led by the Minister of Defence, Mohamed Badaru Abubakar, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet directly with stakeholders in Borno.

Minister Badaru emphasised the need for continued collaboration to tackle the security threats facing the Northeast, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to providing the armed forces with the necessary resources.

He also mentioned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had issued clear directives to service chiefs to intensify operations against insurgents, bandits, and other criminal elements, highlighting the administration’s resolve to secure the region.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum welcomed the delegation and expressed hope that the visit would enhance military effectiveness in Borno.

He reiterated his strong support for the armed forces and acknowledged the Federal Government’s sustained efforts.

The Governor also highlighted operational challenges, particularly manpower shortages in critical areas such as the Timbuktu Triangle and Mandara Hills. He called for increased troop deployment and continuous operations to prevent the resurgence of Boko Haram and other affiliated groups in previously reclaimed areas.

Both the Minister of Defence and Governor Zulum underscored the importance of a strategic partnership between federal forces and local authorities. They agreed that integrating local intelligence and maintaining military pressure are crucial for achieving long-term peace and stability in the region.

The delegation also included the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, along with senior military officials such as the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General E.D. Shuaibu; and the incoming Theatre Commander, Major General A.E. Abubakar.
