Nigeria and Burkina Faso have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral and regional cooperation, as President Bola Tinubu restated Nigeria’s resolve to promote fraternity, good neighbourliness and sustained engagement with the West African nation.
The commitment was conveyed through the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who led a Nigerian delegation to Ouagadougou, where they were received by Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
Ambassador Tuggar delivered a message of goodwill and solidarity from President Tinubu, with discussions focusing on enhancing political, security and economic cooperation between both countries. Particular attention was given to coordinated responses to regional security challenges and improved collaboration within existing sub-regional frameworks.
Both sides reviewed matters of mutual interest, including collective efforts to tackle insecurity across the Sahel and the broader West African region.

The meeting also led to the amicable resolution of the issue involving Nigerian Air Force C-130 pilots and crew, a development that reinforced mutual trust and demonstrated the effectiveness of dialogue in addressing sensitive concerns.
President Traoré highlighted the deep historical ties between Nigeria and Burkina Faso and stressed the importance of closer cooperation to confront shared security and development challenges. Ambassador Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for initiatives that promote regional cohesion, peace and economic integration, conveying President Tinubu’s readiness to work closely with Burkina Faso to advance stability, development and unity in the sub-region.
Both governments agreed to sustain regular consultations and implement practical measures to deepen bilateral relations and strengthen regional integration, underscoring their shared commitment to peace, unity and stability in West Africa. Members of the Nigerian delegation also met with the detained crew, who were described as being in good spirits.
