Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has approved the construction of two flyovers and the dualisation of the 4.8-kilometre MCC–Goodluck Jonathan Bypass in Calabar.
According to Mr Darlington Edem, Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the proposed flyovers will be sited at the popular Mobil Junction and Effio-Ette Roundabout.
Edem, said the approval forms part of the administration’s efforts to give the city a significant facelift. He noted that the project aims to ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and boost economic activity across Calabar.
“There will be a flyover at Mobil Junction, linking Murtala Muhammed Highway and MCC Road, as well as another at Effio-Ette Roundabout, connecting MCC Road, Ndidem Usang-Iso Road, and Parliamentary Road.

“The designs are complete, and preparations are underway for construction. This is a component of a broader vision to reposition Calabar as a modern, efficient, and business-friendly city.
“With improved traffic flow, better urban mobility, and upgraded infrastructure, this project is set to enhance daily life for thousands of commuters and residents across the metropolis.
“This is more than just a road project it’s a bold leap towards Calabar’s future,” he said.
The 4.8-kilometre stretch has been divided into two segments: Section 1 spans 1.7 kilometres from Mobil Junction (Route A4) to Effio-Ette Roundabout (MCC), while Section 2 covers 3.1 kilometres from Effio-Ette Roundabout to the Goodluck Jonathan Bypass Roundabout (Akai Effa).
