The Chinese Embassy in South Sudan on Wednesday donated humanitarian supplies to thousands of people displaced by communal violence in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State.
Lawrence Akola Sarafino, Director-General for Planning, Training, and Coordination at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, stated that the donation would help alleviate the suffering of affected communities.
“Your dedication, compassion, and unwavering support have made a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable people in South Sudan,” Akola said during the handover ceremony in Juba, the capital city.
The donation included rice, corn flour, sugar, salt, cooking oil, instant noodles, bottled water, canvas sheets, saucepans, stainless steel bowls, and sanitary pads.

Over 20,000 people have been internally displaced since January following clashes between local farming communities and cattle herders from neighbouring Jonglei State.
Betty Achan Ogwaro, a member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly representing Magwi County, described the assistance as timely, particularly amid the ongoing rainy season.
Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, Ma Qiang, reaffirmed China’s solidarity with the South Sudanese people and reiterated the country’s commitment to supporting South Sudan through challenging times.
He emphasised that China is dedicated to long-term assistance, including the provision of hundreds of capacity-building opportunities annually.
