Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Dr Akinwunmi Adesina on the accomplishments recorded during his tenure as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Buhari expressed satisfaction with Adesina’s achievements, noting his pride in supporting his emergence as the bank’s leader for two consecutive terms.

“I am pleased with the remarkable success Dr Adesina has achieved as his tenure draws to a close. It brings me joy to have played a role in his emergence as President of the Bank on both occasions.

I have watched Dr Adesina, a distinguished son of Nigeria, deliver an outstanding performance during his two terms at the AfDB.

“As a successor prepares to take over, the records show he has established a legacy of excellence that remains unmatched, leaving shareholders more satisfied than ever before.

“I take pride in having helped bring his exceptional talent to light,” Buhari said.

He added that Adesina’s rise is a testament to his hard work, discipline, and consistent dedication to personal development.

Tah will formally assume office on 1 September 2025.
