Robert Lewandowski struck a hat‑trick as FC Barcelona edged past Celta Vigo 4‑2 on Sunday, closing the gap on league leaders in an important La Liga fixture.
Barcelona took an early lead from the penalty spot after just 10 minutes, following a handball by Marcos Alonso. Celta responded almost immediately through Sergio Carreira, forcing the visitors to fight back. The hosts drew level again just before half‑time with a goal from Borja Iglesias, but Barcelona went into the interval ahead thanks to a strike by Lamine Yamal in first‑half added time.
Lewandowski completed his treble in the 74th minute, powerfully nodding home from a corner to seal the victory. The win lifts Barcelona to 28 points, just three behind Real Madrid, who were held to a draw earlier in the day. Celta remain 13th with 13 points, still five adrift of European‑qualification spots.
“After his injury, I’ve seen a different Lewandowski a positive one,” Barcelona coach Hansi Flick told reporters. “He came back ahead of schedule. It’s great that he’s scored three goals to boost his confidence.”
Although Barcelona’s attack impressed, the team’s defensive vulnerability remains a concern. Celta managed to score twice and exploit gaps at the back. As they head into the international break, continuity and the sharpening of their defensive work will be key if they are to challenge for the title.
