Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has reached another career milestone, earning a UK platinum certification for her hit single ‘Rush’ released in September 2022.

The track has enjoyed significant commercial success in the United Kingdom, where Ayra Starr made history as the first Nigerian female artist to debut a solo song on the UK Official Top 100 chart. The platinum plaque adds to the song’s growing list of accolades, which includes a Diamond certification in France—one of the few Afrobeats songs to achieve that distinction.

The Grammy-nominated star has had a busy start to 2025, highlighted by her appearance at the prestigious MET Gala, where she was one of the standout African artists in attendance.

In April 2025, she released a new single titled Gimme Dat, featuring Grammy-winning megastar Wizkid. The track, which samples Wyclef Jean’s iconic records Diallo and 911 featuring Mary J. Blige, marks their second collaboration, following their earlier work on 2 Sugar from Wizkid’s fifth studio album More Love, Less Ego.

Ayra Starr also featured on Rvssian’s global hit Santa, which appears on her sophomore album The Year I Turned 21. The album has been well-received both critically and commercially, boasting standout tracks like Woman Commando featuring Coco Jones and Anitta, as well as the hit single Commas.

Earlier in the year, her success was further recognised with a history-making win at the MOBO Awards, reinforcing her reputation as one of Africa’s leading global exports.

She also picked up the award for Best R&B Single at the 17th Headies for Last Heartbreak Song featuring American singer Giveon, adding to her growing list of industry accolades.
