Abuja–Kaduna Train Service to Resume October 1, Says NRC

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has designated every Wednesday for maintenance of the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS).

The NRC also announced the resumption of passenger services on the corridor, effective Wednesday, October 1.

The Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, Mr Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos.

He said commercial operations would resume following the successful completion of all safety, technical, and operational checks.

According to him, the move reflects the NRC’s commitment to providing smooth, reliable, and secure train services for passengers.

Unyimadu recalled that after the August 26 incident, 530 out of the 583 passengers on board were contacted by phone, with 512 refunded.

He added that all 22 injured passengers had been reached, many visited by the NRC’s medical team, and would be entitled to one free ride weekly until December 31.

“All 618 people on board during the August 26 accident will be entitled to one free ride before December 31,” he said.

The AKTS timetable includes: Abuja–Kaduna, IDU: 8:45 a.m., Kubwa: 9:05 a.m., Rigassa: 12:42 p.m. (arrival).
Kaduna–Abuja schedule: Rigassa: 2:30 p.m., Kubwa: 6:02 p.m., IDU: 6:23 p.m. (arrival).

Unyimadu appreciated passengers’ patience during the suspension and reaffirmed the NRC’s commitment to safe, reliable, affordable, and customer-friendly train services nationwide.
