Venus Williams Receives US Open Wildcard

Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams has been awarded a wildcard into the women’s singles main draw at this year’s US Open, organisers have announced.

The 46-year-old American is a two-time US Open singles champion and will return to Flushing Meadows after losing in the opening round last year to Czech player Karolina Muchova.

Williams will be aiming to make a deeper run in the tournament as she continues her career on the professional circuit.

The American recently returned to doubles competition with her sister, Serena Williams, at the Cincinnati Open. The sisters suffered a first-round defeat on Monday in their first doubles appearance together since 2022.

Stephens Also Receives Wildcard

Former US Open champion Sloane Stephens has also been awarded a wildcard for this year’s women’s singles tournament.

Stephens, who won the title in 2017, is seeking to revive her career after a foot injury disrupted her 2025 season.

Tournament organisers said one additional wildcard place in the women’s singles draw is yet to be announced.

Monfils Gets Men’s Wildcard

On the men’s side, French veteran Gael Monfils has secured a wildcard into the US Open main draw.

The former world number six, who has announced plans to retire at the end of the season, will make another appearance at the Grand Slam tournament.

Monfils and his wife, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina, have also received wildcards for the mixed doubles competition.

The US Open remains one of the sport’s biggest events, with the tournament attracting leading players from around the world to New York.
