The Anambra State Government is considering the establishment of a modular refinery as part of efforts to expand gas processing and increase the availability of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) across the state.
The Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Prof. Charles Ofoegbu, disclosed this in Awka when he received members of the Anambra State chapter of the National Association of LPG Marketers (NALPGAM).
Ofoegbu said the proposed refinery formed part of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s efforts to reform the petroleum and gas sector, strengthen energy supply and attract greater private-sector investment.
He urged investors interested in setting up gas processing plants to explore the opportunities emerging in the state, assuring them that the government would facilitate access to gas supplies to support their operations.
According to the commissioner, the government’s strategy is aimed at developing a more efficient petroleum sector while creating a structured environment for businesses and consumers.
Ofoegbu also welcomed NALPGAM’s proposal to organise a workshop on LPG safety and operations, noting that such initiatives would help address industry challenges and promote greater public awareness.
Earlier, NALPGAM Chairman in Anambra, Dr Daniel Madueke, sought the commissioner’s approval to hold the workshop, which he said would educate LPG operators and members of the public on the safe handling and use of cooking gas.
Madueke said the training would cover the composition of LPG, the various pressure levels at which it operates and measures to prevent domestic accidents associated with gas use.
He congratulated Ofoegbu on his appointment and expressed the association’s willingness to collaborate with the ministry to promote safety and responsible LPG operations across the state.
