Multiple EFL Matches Postponed Due To Frozen Pitches

Championship fixtures, including Sheffield United vs Oxford United and Portsmouth vs Ipswich Town, were among numerous English Football League (EFL) matches postponed on Sunday due to frozen playing surfaces.

Sheffield United confirmed the decision in a statement: “The referee was called to Bramall Lane this morning with parts of the playing surface frozen and, following an inspection, he has taken the decision to call off the fixture due to concerns over player safety.”

The club added: “An announcement regarding a rearranged date will be confirmed in due course.”

Freezing conditions across the country forced the postponement of 13 EFL fixtures in total. In League One, Doncaster’s game against Luton Town and Rotherham’s clash with visiting Mansfield were called off.

In League Two, nine matches were postponed, affecting Barnet, Barrow, Bromley, Colchester, Harrogate Town, Newport County, Notts County, Salford City and Walsall.

The league said it would work to reschedule the fixtures as soon as conditions allow, prioritising player safety and pitch standards.
