Polish goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański has rejoined West Ham United on a one-year contract, the Premier League club confirmed on Wednesday.

The 40-year-old, who made 216 appearances during a seven-year spell at the London club, initially departed as a free agent at the end of the 2024/25 campaign when his contract expired.

However, with West Ham left with only two senior goalkeepers Mads Hermansen and Alphonse Areola following Wes Foderingham’s move to Cypriot side Aris Limassol on Tuesday, the Hammers opted to bring Fabiański back.

“Regardless of him being here previously, the main factor is that he is still a top goalkeeper and a top professional, and the perfect choice for the role we needed to fill,” head coach Graham Potter said.

“It’s a signing that makes perfect sense for everyone. Łukasz knows the club extremely well, is very well respected and popular among everyone here. His personality and character will be a great example, especially to our younger players. He is someone who really cares about West Ham United and wants to help us in any way he can. We are very happy to have him back with us.”

West Ham have endured a difficult start to the season, conceding a league-high eight goals with new signing Hermansen in goal. They currently sit 16th in the table ahead of Saturday’s London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
