Marmoush to Miss Manchester Derby After Knee Injury

Omar Marmoush will miss Sunday’s Manchester derby after the Egyptian forward sustained a knee injury on international duty, his club confirmed on Wednesday, adding to their growing injury concerns.

The 26-year-old lasted only a few minutes in Egypt’s 0-0 World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso on Tuesday before going down under a challenge. Team doctors later confirmed he had suffered bruising to his knee ligament.

“Initial results from a scan performed in Egypt indicate he will not be available for the Manchester derby on Sunday. He will now return to Manchester for further assessment and to begin his rehabilitation,” City said in a statement.

Marmoush, who joined the club in January last season, ended the campaign with eight goals and four assists in all competitions but is yet to find the net this term.

The setback is another blow for Pep Guardiola’s side, who sit 13th in the table with just one win from their opening three matches.

City are already without long-term absentees Rayan Cherki and Mateo Kovačić, while Phil Foden and Savinho are also doubts ahead of Sunday’s clash.
