The Ogun State Government has announced that free entry to the renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex will end on Saturday, 23 August, citing safety concerns over the recent surge of visitors.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by Mr Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Governor Abiodun expressed appreciation to tourists and visitors for the unprecedented turnout recorded since the relaunch of the historic site. He noted that the overwhelming response underscored his administration’s commitment to repositioning Olumo Rock as a world-class tourist destination.

According to him, the free access initiative was introduced to allow tourists rediscover and appreciate the cultural and historical significance of the site.

“This objective has been fully achieved, with thousands of visitors taking advantage of the initiative,” the governor said.

He, however, raised concerns about overcrowding and public safety, noting that at certain points the large crowd posed risks that could have led to a stampede but for the swift intervention of security agencies and on-site personnel.

Abiodun therefore directed that the free entry initiative end on Saturday, 23 August.

“The Ogun government regrets any inconvenience this adjustment may cause and assures the public of its commitment to ensuring a safe and memorable experience,” he added
