FAAN Probes Incident Involving K1 De Ultimate at Abuja Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has addressed the incident that occurred on Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, involving a popular musician and a ValueJet pilot.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.

Orah confirmed that King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1 De Ultimate, was scheduled to board the morning flight VK 201 to Lagos.

She said preliminary findings revealed that the musician attempted to carry an unidentified liquid on board, despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the Flight Captain.

She noted that under international standards including Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Security Programme and ICAO Annex 17 liquids exceeding 100ml must be declared and medically justified.

“The passenger was informed of the regulations but declined to comply,” Orah stated.

As boarding continued, an airline security officer reportedly asked the passenger to step aside for clarification.

“The passenger allegedly refused and poured the liquid  later confirmed to be alcohol  on the officer,” she said.

The Flight Captain intervened but met resistance. Once boarding was complete, the captain ordered the aircraft door to be closed.

However, the passenger reportedly moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area, despite repeated instructions.

Orah confirmed that the musician was eventually escorted off the aircraft by AVSEC’s Crime Investigation Unit for questioning and was later released.

“FAAN reiterates its firm commitment to the safety and security of all passengers, crew, and airport personnel,” she stated.

She added that the authority would not tolerate actions that compromise airport operations or violate aviation safety protocols, regardless of the individual involved.

“This matter is under thorough investigation, and all responsible individuals will be held accountable according to the law,” Orah concluded.

She also reaffirmed FAAN’s dedication to professionalism, safety, and full regulatory compliance at all Nigerian airports.
