The new Tanzanian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Selestine Gervas Kakele, has reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening ties between the Tanzania High Commission and Voice of Nigeria (VON), particularly through the promotion of the Swahili language and cultural exchange.
Mr Kakele expressed this commitment while hosting staff of VON who are currently enrolled in Swahili language classes at the High Commission in Abuja.
He noted that Tanzania’s revised foreign policy places significant emphasis on advancing Swahili as a unifying African language, both on the continent and globally.
“Allow me to reiterate not only my personal commitment but also that of my team at the High Commission we will leave no stone unturned. I will ensure that Swahili classes continue through VON,“ he assured.

The ambassador further emphasised his readiness to engage with VON’s management to overcome any challenges that may arise in expanding the station’s Swahili language broadcasts.
“The class at VON speaks volumes about our dedication to promoting Kiswahili. As you know, Kiswahili is a language that continues to grow,” he remarked.
He also reiterated the High Commission’s plan to celebrate this year’s Swahili Language Day on 7 July, in collaboration with other East African nations. Mr Kakele extended a warm invitation to VON’s Swahili language students to participate in the celebration.
