The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) have reaffirmed their partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to support the conduct of credible and peaceful 2027 general elections.
The commitment was made on Tuesday in Abuja during a stakeholder engagement on election administration and security.
NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, represented by the Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services, Mrs Abdulwahab Olayinka, said the scheme had strengthened its monitoring and supervisory mechanisms to ensure corps members deployed for electoral duties maintained discipline, neutrality and integrity.
Nafiu said NYSC officials from the national headquarters would continue to visit states to sensitise corps members and ensure compliance with established rules and guidelines.
He assured INEC that the NYSC would mobilise and deploy the required number of corps members for the elections, subject to appropriate training and orientation.
“We will give them the necessary training, the necessary sensitisation, and ensure that we partner with all security agencies for their safety and a conducive environment,” he said.
The NYSC chief also appealed to political leaders, security agencies and community stakeholders to help create a peaceful environment for corps members who would serve as ad hoc electoral personnel.
He urged INEC to ensure the prompt payment of election allowances to corps members and address any challenges arising from bank payment processes without delay.
On his part, NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the agency would intensify voter education and grassroots sensitisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Issa-Onilu said NOA’s nationwide structure, with 815 offices across all local government areas, placed it in a strong position to reach citizens with voter education and information on electoral participation.
He said the agency had been working with INEC to educate Nigerians on voter registration and other aspects of the electoral process.
According to him, NOA will soon launch a nationwide voter education and sensitisation campaign in collaboration with INEC, security agencies and the media.
He disclosed that the agency currently works with 253 radio stations, 72 television channels and several digital media influencers to expand its public awareness efforts.
Issa-Onilu said NOA would also rely on its grassroots presence across the 774 local government areas to promote civic responsibility, peaceful participation and informed engagement ahead of the elections.
He assured Nigerians that the agency would intensify its efforts to support a credible electoral process and encourage citizens to participate peacefully.
