The Group Chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, on Thursday declared his intention to contest the 2026 Osun governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed 8 August 2026 for the governorship election in the state.
Ogunbiyi was the Accord Party’s governorship candidate in 2022 after losing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket to Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Addressing newsmen after declaring his intention at the APC Secretariat in Osogbo, Ogunbiyi stated that he would support whomever the party selected as its governorship candidate.

According to him, all APC governorship aspirants have agreed to rally behind whoever emerges victorious.
“My chances of clinching the party ticket are bright, as I have overwhelming support from party members across the state.
“I believe I stand as a unifying factor for all aspirants and for the APC in Osun.
“By God’s grace, my supporters from across the state and various local governments are here today to show solidarity. I also enjoy a lot of goodwill.
“This proves that the people are with me, and my chances of securing the party ticket are very high. I am not concerned about the governor joining the APC.
“I also commend President Bola Tinubu for the good work he is doing to reposition the economy.
“Based on the president’s performance, he will win the 2027 election, and APC will reclaim Osun from the PDP in 2026,” he said.
Earlier, the APC Secretary in the state, Alhaji Kamarudeen Alao, confirmed that Ogunbiyi had met with party executives and pledged to support whichever candidate the party puts forward.
“All the aspirants are united and working towards the same goal. Their supporters should do the same to ensure APC’s success in the 2026 election,” he said.
