Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has expressed concerns about the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) preparedness for the 2027 general elections.

In a recent media interaction, Wike stated that the PDP is not adequately preparing for the upcoming elections, likening the party’s current state to a student who claims to be studying without actually doing so. He emphasised that internal power struggles within the party are hindering its progress and readiness.

“The PDP cannot resolve its leadership crisis if members keep trying to bring me down,” Wike said

Wike also dismissed the idea of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar securing the PDP’s presidential ticket for 2027, arguing that Nigerians had already rejected him in previous elections. He added:

“Atiku has no chance in PDP; Nigerians have rejected him before, and it will not happen again.”

Wike’s comments reflect the deepening divisions within the party as factions continue to vie for power. He pointed out that the PDP’s failure to present a united front will likely undermine its chances in the 2027 elections. Furthermore, he questioned the party’s strategy moving forward, saying that without a cohesive approach, the PDP would struggle to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his remarks, Wike underscored the importance of unity and clear leadership if the PDP hopes to make a meaningful impact in the 2027 election, emphasising that the current internal strife is a significant barrier to the party’s future success.
