The Speaker of the Cross River House of Assembly, Mr Elvert Ayambem, has disclosed that the 10th Assembly passed a total of 30 bills and 83 resolutions, alongside 10 confirmations, since its inauguration two years ago.
Ayambem made this known during a plenary session marking the end of the second legislative year. The session was attended by friends, families, and former members of the Assembly.
The Speaker praised Governor Bassey Otu and fellow legislators for their cooperation, attributing the Assembly’s progress to a united front.
He outlined key legislative achievements, stating: “Some of the bills passed include the Cross River Security Trust Fund Bill, 2024; Cross River Forestry Research Institute Establishment Bill, 2024; and the Cross River Independent Electoral Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Others are the Cross River Senior Citizens Centre Bill, 2025; Cross River Lotteries and Gaming Agency Law, 2025; and Cross River State Local Government (Amendment) Law, 2025, among others.”

Ayambem also noted the House’s involvement in confirmations and oversight through its standing committees.
While expressing regret over the Assembly’s earlier delisting from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) due to indebtedness, he confirmed that the issue had been resolved and the legislature reinstated.
Former lawmaker Mr Okon Ephraim, who once represented Calabar South Constituency, lauded the 10th Assembly, stating it had “surpassed the achievements of the last three assemblies in the state.” He also encouraged members to maintain cordial relations with the executive arm.
Another former member, Mr Ogana Lokpata, who represented Yala 1 Constituency, urged lawmakers to engage more actively in House activities, stressing that doing so would enhance their legislative performance.
