The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, 26 May 2025, in observance of Memorial Day, a federal holiday in the United States honouring military personnel who lost their lives in service to their country.
In an official statement released via its X (formerly Twitter) account, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria announced the temporary closure of all routine consular services at both locations. Normal operations are set to resume on Tuesday, 27 May.

The statement read, “The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025, in observance of Memorial Day – a U.S. federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May in honour of U.S. military personnel who lost their lives in service of their country.”
The Mission advised that individuals requiring urgent consular assistance during the closure should visit its official website for emergency contact details.
Memorial Day is marked annually by solemn ceremonies and tributes across the United States, commemorating fallen servicemen and women.
