President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday administered the oath of office to two new Permanent Secretaries and the newly appointed Chairman and Commissioners of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) during an expanded Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The brief swearing-in ceremony was conducted in a single batch and anchored by the Director of the Media Office of the President, Mr Biodun Oladunjoye.

The newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries are Mr Rafiu Olarinre Adeladan from Oyo State and Mr Muktar Mohammed from Jigawa State.

President Tinubu also swore in Mr Saviour Enyiekere as the Chairman of the NASC, along with 12 commissioners drawn from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Enyiekere, an environmental specialist and former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Senate President, will serve a renewable term of five years.

The newly inducted commissioners include:

  • Northwest: Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi and Hon. Yusuf A. Yusuf Tabuka

  • Northeast: Aminu Ibrahim Malle and Alhaji Lawan Maina Mahmud

  • Northcentral: Mark Hanmation Tersoo and Salihu Umar Agboola Balogun

  • Southwest: Taiwo Olukemi Oluga and Afeez Ipeza-Balogun

  • Southeast: Nnanna Uzor Kalu and Festus Ifesinachi Odii

  • Southsouth: Patrick A. Giwa and Mrs Mary Ekpenyong

All members of the commission are to hold office for a renewable five-year term.

The Council also observed a minute’s silence in honour of the late Dubem Onyia, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, who passed away on 10 March 2025.

Dignitaries in attendance at the ceremony included Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

Several cabinet ministers were also present, including the Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

It will be recalled that the last FEC meeting held on 3 March saw the Federal Government approve ₦2.5 billion for the procurement of a surveillance satellite—an integrated solution framework—to curb illegal and unregulated mining across the country. The Council also approved a ₦1.09 billion insurance package for critical assets and personnel across all federal airports.
