At least one teacher has been killed and four other people injured after a student opened fire at a school in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province, authorities said on Friday.
The suspected gunman, identified by police as a student, later died by suicide, according to Lt Col Dechrapee Kongdee, commander of the Nonthaburi Provincial Police.
The incident occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district, north of Bangkok. The injured included one teacher and three students.
An 18-year-old student told Reuters that he initially mistook the sound of gunfire for firecrackers before realising what was happening.

Emergency responders were deployed to the school as students were evacuated from the premises and injured people were taken for medical treatment.
District authorities said the school had about 3,100 students and 147 teachers during the 2025 academic year.
The incident comes months after another school shooting in southern Thailand, where a teacher was killed and a student injured in February.
Police said investigations into Friday’s incident were ongoing.
