Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reaffirmed that Russia remains a dependable partner to Africa and will continue to support the continent’s sovereignty and development.
Lavrov made this known during a reception in Moscow to mark Africa Day, according to a report published on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in partnership with TV BRICS.
Present at the event were Minister Lavrov and the Ambassador of Cameroon to the Russian Federation, Mahamat Paba Sale.
“Russia remains a reliable partner contributing to Africa’s sovereignty,” Lavrov stated.
He highlighted Africa’s growing significance in international affairs and within broader historical developments, stressing Russia’s consistent advocacy for deepening traditionally friendly relations with African nations.
Lavrov further noted Russia’s commitment to strengthening education and fostering economic progress across African countries.
In response, Ambassador Sale emphasised the “special importance” of Russia-Africa relations, recalling Russia’s historic support for African nations during their struggles for independence and their pursuit of progress.
He added that Russian universities continue to train highly skilled professionals who are in demand across Africa, while expanding trade relations are yielding concrete benefits for local economies.
Sale expressed optimism that the Russia-Africa partnership would continue to grow stronger, and conveyed gratitude for Russia’s continued attention and support to the continent.
