President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Canada, particularly in the areas of education, climate change, and migration.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President congratulated Mr Mark Joseph Carney on the Liberal Party’s recent victory in the Canadian parliamentary elections and his emergence as the 24th Prime Minister.

President Tinubu expressed his eagerness to foster a dynamic and forward-looking partnership with Prime Minister Carney’s administration, building upon the goodwill and cooperation previously established under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

He also acknowledged the significance of Mr Carney’s hard-earned electoral victory at a time when Canada requires experienced leadership. The President expressed confidence that Carney’s background in banking and governance would prove instrumental during this pivotal period in the nation’s history.

Mr Carney, an accomplished economist, previously served as Governor of the Bank of Canada (2008–2013) and Governor of the Bank of England (2013–2020).
