President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to celebrated Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her family following the death of her young son, Nkanu Nnamdi Esege.

In a personally signed condolence message, the President described the loss of a child as one of the most painful experiences any parent can endure. He said he empathised deeply with Ms. Adichie, noting that the grief of losing a child is incomparable and life-altering.

President Tinubu said his thoughts and prayers are with the author, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and their entire family as they navigate this period of profound sorrow. He assured them of his solidarity and shared grief at a time marked by immense emotional pain.

The President also paid tribute to Ms. Adichie’s global impact, describing her as a towering figure in world literature whose works have inspired and uplifted millions across continents. He prayed that God would grant her and her family the fortitude needed to cope with the devastating loss.

The tragedy occurred on 7 January, when Ms. Adichie and her husband lost their 21-month-old twin son, Nkanu Nnamdi Esege, who reportedly passed away after a brief illness.
