2026 Teachers Awards: Anambra Wins Nine National Honours

Anambra State has clinched nine of the 18 national honours presented at the 2026 President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards, emerging among the top-performing states in Nigeria’s education sector.

The awards, presented on Monday, October 5, at Eagle Square, Abuja, recognised outstanding teachers, school administrators and schools across the country.

Anambra secured eight overall category awards and a first runner-up position, recording victories in Public Primary School Administrator, Public Junior Secondary School Administrator, Private Junior Secondary School Teacher, Public Primary School Teacher, Private Junior Secondary School, Private Senior Secondary School, Private Junior Secondary School Administrator and Private Primary School categories.

The state also emerged first runner-up in the Best Public Secondary School Teacher category, bringing its total number of national honours to nine.

Among the award recipients was Mrs Gloria Nkolika Odionu of Awada Primary School 4, Obosi, who won the Overall Best Public Primary School Administrator in Nigeria award. She received a Jetour vehicle as part of her prize.

Agatha Chika Ofojindu of Urban Boys Secondary School, Onitsha, also emerged Best Public Junior Secondary School Administrator in Nigeria and received a tricycle.

Other prizes won by Anambra recipients included deep freezers and laptops, depending on the respective award categories.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr Ekene Ogugua, described the achievement as evidence of continued progress in the state’s education sector.

Ogugua congratulated Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, teachers, school administrators, pupils and other stakeholders in the education sector for the feat.

“At the 2026 President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards held on October 5, at Eagle Square, Abuja, Anambra State secured nine awards out of 18 categories contested nationally,” Ogugua said in a statement posted on his verified social media handle.

He described the achievement as “another testament to the progress being recorded in education across Anambra State”, stressing that the government would continue to pursue measures aimed at improving education standards.

The annual awards recognise outstanding contributions by teachers, school administrators and schools to teaching, administration and learning outcomes across Nigeria.
