The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, has summoned an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for Monday amid growing leadership tensions within the party.
Wabara announced the decision on Sunday in Abuja during the 84th meeting of his faction of the board, saying the move became necessary to prevent a leadership vacuum following recent developments in the party.
According to him, the board acted in line with provisions of the party’s constitution as amended in 2017.

He disclosed that the BoT secured the constitutionally required two-thirds support of NEC members before convening the meeting and had formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“I am pleased to inform Nigerians that we have secured the required consent.
“INEC has been duly notified of the 103rd NEC meeting scheduled for Monday, May 4,” Wabara said.
He urged party members to approach the meeting with unity, reconciliation, and renewed commitment towards rebuilding the PDP.
“We must act as the conscience of our party and provide direction,” he said.
Wabara explained that the board assumed administrative leadership following a Supreme Court judgment delivered on Thursday, which he said averted a constitutional crisis and leadership uncertainty within the party.
According to him, the apex court nullified the 2025 national convention that produced the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).
He further stated that the court upheld the suspensions of individuals linked to the March convention held in Abuja.
Wabara maintained that Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and Umar Bature remain suspended, noting that the disciplinary actions imposed on Nov. 1, 2025, were affirmed by the Supreme Court.
“Despite our travails, our party remains strong and can never die. The PDP will never surrender to renegades or political brigands,” he declared.
However, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, dismissed claims of any leadership vacuum in the PDP.
Mohammed insisted that Abdulrahman Mohammed remains the legitimate National Chairman of the party.
He argued that the Supreme Court ruling only addressed the legality of the Ibadan convention and did not affect the current National Working Committee or the administration of the party.
“There has never been any vacuum or absence of leadership in the PDP,” Mohammed said.
He maintained that the party’s structure remains lawful and fully operational.
Mohammed also argued that the party’s constitution does not empower the Board of Trustees to assume the responsibilities of the National Working Committee.
He further questioned Wabara’s authority to convene the meeting, insisting that his tenure as BoT chairman had expired.
“The only legitimate BoT leadership is that headed by Mao Ohuabunwa,” Mohammed stated.
