The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently holding a critical closed-door meeting at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, aimed at addressing escalating internal disputes and operational setbacks within the party.
The emergency session, which commenced at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, is primarily focused on the deepening rift involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Wike recently withdrew from ongoing peace negotiations, alleging insincerity on the part of prominent party leaders, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
According to Vanguard report, “The BoT is attempting to resolve the issues with Wike. He pulled out of the peace talks, accusing leaders like Seyi Makinde of not being truthful.”
Among those in attendance are several high-profile PDP figures, including Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum; Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah; Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri; Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang; Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri; and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum.
Also present are Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; BoT member Ben Obi; retired Navy Commodore Olabode George; former Information Minister Jerry Gana; former Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu; former PDP Ministers’ Forum Chair Kabiru Tanimu Turaki; and former Minister of Women Affairs Josephine Anenih.

In addition to the Wike impasse, the BoT is also deliberating on the sudden closure of the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), due to 28 years of unpaid ground rent. The closure has compelled the party to temporarily relocate its administrative activities to the Bauchi Lodge, underlining further structural challenges.
“They’re also trying to manage the situation with the party headquarters being sealed by the FCTA due to long-standing unpaid rent, which explains the choice of venue for the meeting,” the source added.
The BoT is further considering a postponement of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, originally scheduled for Tuesday, to allow additional time for resolving disputes and facilitating reconciliation.
“The NEC meeting may be delayed to create more space for conflict resolution,” the source noted.
Tensions within the PDP have intensified following Wike’s public withdrawal from reconciliation efforts on Sunday, heightening concern over the party’s unity and direction.
