The Ogun State House of Assembly has called on local government chairmen to adhere strictly to due process in budget implementation, stressing the need for transparency in their financial operations.

Chairman of the House Committee on Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Jemili Akingbade, made the appeal during an oversight visit to Odogbolu and Ikenne Local Government Areas.

Akingbade, alongside fellow committee members including the Vice Chairman, Mr Dickson Awolaja, and members Mr Olakunle Sobunkola, Mr Adegoke Adeyanju, Mr Oluseun Adesanya, Mr Lukman Adeleye, Mr Haruna Egungbohun, Mr Damilola Soneye, and Mr Fatiu Folawewo inspected various projects and highlighted the importance of accountability in grassroots governance.

He criticised Odogbolu Local Government for bypassing its Finance and General Purpose Committee and for spending outside the approved budget. He directed the council chairman, Head of Local Government Administration, Treasurer, and Director of General Services and Administration to submit their financial records to the Assembly.

In response, Odogbolu Council Chairman, Mr Babatunde Diya, thanked the lawmakers and pledged to address the issues raised.

The committee also assessed Ikenne Local Government’s financial records, which were presented by the chairman, Mr Jamiu Ashimi.
