The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed the death of three passengers following an accident involving the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor in Agbor, Delta State.
The corporation said emergency and rescue teams were immediately deployed to the scene after the incident, while all passengers on board the train have been accounted for.
According to the NRC, medical assistance is being provided to affected passengers as efforts continue to support victims and their families.
The corporation disclosed that a comprehensive assessment is underway to determine the cause of the accident and evaluate the extent of the damage.
It stated that relevant authorities have commenced investigations into the incident and assured the public that further details would be made available as findings emerge.
The NRC expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and sympathised with all passengers affected by the tragedy.
The corporation reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety and pledged to take all necessary measures arising from the outcome of the investigation.
