As part of its nationwide efforts to strengthen security infrastructure, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has commissioned a modern Smart Divisional Police Headquarters in Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria.

The facility, located in Akaeze, was officially handed over to the Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday and is equipped with state-of-the-art features. These include a fully furnished police station, CCTV-enabled perimeter surveillance, solar-powered inverter systems, a functional borehole with an overhead water tank, fire safety installations, and landscaped premises with designated parking.

Speaking during the commissioning, the Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mohammed F. Sheidu, said the project was aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and improving police-community relations.

“This smart facility is part of our commitment to providing the Nigeria Police with the infrastructure, training, and tools needed to confront today’s complex security challenges,” he said.

Sheidu praised key stakeholders for their support, especially President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, “for his unwavering leadership and support for police reform and modernisation.”

He also commended the Inspector General of Police for championing the force’s transformation agenda and lauded Ebonyi State Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru “for creating the enabling environment that ensured the successful execution of this project.”

The commissioning ceremony drew dignitaries from across the state, including the Commissioner of Police, CP Uche Anya; Deputy Core, Hon. Princess Patricia Obila; traditional rulers; senior police officers; and community leaders.

In a solemn moment during his address, Sheidu expressed sympathy with the families of victims of recent attacks in Benue State, stressing that such tragedies highlight the urgent need for “a well-equipped and responsive police force to safeguard lives and protect our communities.”

He noted that the Akaeze project is one of several being implemented by the Trust Fund to transform policing across Nigeria through innovation, infrastructure investment, and strategic partnerships.

The new station is expected to improve the working environment for officers and serve as a model for future policing infrastructure in the country.
