The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorm and rainfall activities across various parts of the country from Saturday through to Monday.
In its weather outlook released on Friday in Abuja, NiMet predicted early morning thunderstorms on Saturday over parts of Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa States in the northern region.
It stated that later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected over parts of Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Borno, Kaduna, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi States.
For the North-Central region, early morning thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Benue, Plateau, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Nasarawa States.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms with rain are expected over parts of the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Plateau States,” it said.
In the Southern region, NiMet forecast cloudy skies with a likelihood of morning rainfall over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.
The agency also predicted isolated thunderstorms and rain later in the day over parts of Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers States.
On Sunday, NiMet expects morning thunderstorms in parts of Kaduna, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba States in the North.
Thunderstorms with rainfall are also anticipated later in the day over Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Gombe, and Bauchi States.

For the North-Central zone, the forecast indicates partly cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine and chances of early morning thunderstorms over Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, and the FCT.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms with rains are expected in the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau States,” NiMet said.
In the South, morning thunderstorms are likely in parts of Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States.
Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with rainfall are forecast over most parts of Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers States.
On Monday, morning thunderstorms are predicted over parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba States in the North.
Later in the day, rain and thunderstorms are expected across Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, Gombe, Kaduna, and Bauchi States.
In the North-Central region, NiMet forecasts partly cloudy conditions with sunshine intervals and prospects of thunderstorms with rain over the FCT, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, and Niger States.
“Thunderstorms are expected during the afternoon or evening over parts of Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and Kogi States,” it added.
In the South, cloudy skies are forecast in the morning, with chances of rain over parts of Ogun, Edo, Ondo, Delta, and Bayelsa States.
“Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with rain are expected across most parts of the region,” NiMet stated.
The agency advised the public to take necessary precautions, noting that strong winds may precede the rain in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur.
It urged residents to secure loose objects to prevent damage, and to avoid driving during heavy downpours.
“Disconnect electrical appliances from sockets. Stay away from tall trees to avoid injury from falling branches or collapsed trees.
“Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective operational planning.
“Residents are encouraged to stay informed through regular weather updates from NiMet. Visit our website,” the statement added.
