NiMet Forecasts Nationwide Thunderstorms, Rainfall Wednesday to Friday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Wednesday to Friday.

In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet predicted early morning thunderstorms on Wednesday over parts of Taraba, Kaduna and Adamawa States in the northern region.

It further projected thunderstorms with rain later in the day across Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Gombe and Bauchi States.

In the North-Central region, early morning thunderstorms are expected over Benue, Kwara, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Nasarawa.
Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are anticipated in the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi and Plateau States.

For the southern region, a cloudy morning is expected, with light rainfall possible over parts of Ondo, Ekiti and Edo States.
By afternoon or evening, isolated thunderstorms with rain are likely in Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers States.

On Thursday, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms in parts of Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Adamawa and Taraba States.
Later in the day, Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano, Gombe and Bauchi are expected to experience thunderstorms with rain.

In the North-Central region, a mix of cloud patches and sunshine is expected, with possible early morning thunderstorms over Niger, Nasarawa, Benue and the FCT.
By afternoon, thunderstorms with rain are likely across the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue and Plateau.

In the South, morning thunderstorms are expected in Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.
Isolated thunderstorms with rain are forecast later in the day in Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers.

For Friday, NiMet projects morning thunderstorms in Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa and Taraba.
Later in the day, Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi are expected to receive further rainfall with thunderstorms.

In the North-Central region, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are forecast, with potential thunderstorms in the FCT, Nasarawa, Kwara and Niger.
Kwara, Benue and Kogi may also experience rain during the afternoon or evening.

In the South, a cloudy morning is expected, with rain likely in Oyo, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.
Thunderstorms with rain are expected across most parts of the region later in the day.

NiMet also warned that strong winds may precede rainfall in some areas. The public is advised to take necessary precautions, such as securing loose objects, avoiding driving in heavy rain, and disconnecting electrical appliances during storms.

Residents are also advised to stay away from tall trees to avoid the risk of falling branches.
Airline operators are encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for flight planning.
