NiMet Forecasts Sunny, Cloudy Weather with Isolated Thunderstorms Nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Sunday to Tuesday, with isolated thunderstorms expected in several regions across the nation.

In its weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of cloud over most northern states on Sunday, with a likelihood of morning thunderstorms in parts of Taraba State. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, Zamfara, and Adamawa States.

For the North Central region, the agency projected sunny skies with cloudy intervals and isolated morning thunderstorms in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Kogi States. Thunderstorms are also anticipated later in the day in these areas, as well as in Plateau and Benue States.

In the South, a generally cloudy atmosphere is expected, with chances of morning thunderstorms in Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Lagos, and Bayelsa States. Thunderstorms are also forecast in the afternoon across much of the region, including Oyo, Ekiti, and Enugu States.

On Monday, NiMet expects sunny conditions with patches of clouds in the North, along with morning thunderstorms in parts of Taraba. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are likely in Kebbi, Taraba, Kaduna, Borno, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Adamawa.

The North Central is also expected to experience sunny conditions in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms in the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Kogi States.

In the South, thunderstorms are anticipated in the morning over Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Imo, Abia, Osun, Cross River, Delta, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom States. Later in the day, rainfall is expected in most southern states, including Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Oyo, Ekiti, Bayelsa, and Rivers.

By Tuesday, NiMet predicts sunny skies with patches of cloud across the North, with afternoon or evening thunderstorms expected in Sokoto, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, and Kaduna States.

Morning thunderstorms are likely over parts of Benue, Niger, Kogi, and Kwara States in the North Central region, with later occurrences expected in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Kwara.

In the South, morning thunderstorms are forecast in Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States. These will likely extend into the afternoon and evening across most states in the region.

NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions, warning that strong winds may precede thunderstorms. It urged residents to secure loose objects, avoid sheltering under trees, and disconnect electrical appliances during storms.

Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather information for flight planning, while the general public is encouraged to stay updated through NiMet’s official website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
