Nigeria, UAE Sign Landmark Economic Partnership Agreement

Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have officially signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), a move set to transform trade relations and expand global opportunities for Nigerian businesses and talent.

The signing took place today, 13 January 2026, in the presence of both Heads of State. The agreement was endorsed by Dr Jumoke Oduwole, Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, and Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade.

CEPA establishes a competitive framework that offers Nigerian enterprises direct access to the UAE market, with tariff elimination on more than 7,000 products and entry into 108 service sectors. Officials described the agreement not merely as a diplomatic milestone, but as a strategic tool for economic transformation.

“CEPA opens new pathways for Nigerian businesses into the UAE, the Middle East, and beyond,” said Dr Oduwole, emphasising the opportunities for trade expansion, investment, and talent mobility.

The partnership marks a significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen international trade links, boost industrial growth, and position the country as a major player in the global economic landscape.
