The Nigerian Government has restated its dedication to youth empowerment, inclusive governance, and grassroots development as part of its broader efforts to foster national peace.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, gave this assurance in a keynote address delivered at a retreat organised by the Traditional Youth Chiefs’ Forum of Nigeria (TYCFN) in Nasarawa State.

The retreat, themed “The Role of Traditional Youth Chiefs in Peace Building and Community Development”, brought together youth leaders, policymakers, and civil society stakeholders.

Represented by Chief Obinna Nwaka, Director General of the Committee of Youth on Mobilisation and Sensitisation (CYMS), Olawande stated that young people are not merely leaders of the future, but active agents of change today.

“As Traditional Youth Chiefs, you serve as a vital link between our cultural heritage and innovation,” he said.
“Your leadership is key in fostering peace, guiding development, and amplifying the voices of young Nigerians.”

Call for Inclusive Development

The minister described peace building as an ongoing process anchored in justice, dialogue, and inclusive participation. He urged youth chiefs to drive community development through education, vocational training, entrepreneurship, and mentorship.

He also emphasised the importance of including marginalised voices in governance and promoting patriotic values to positively shape the nation’s image.

Olawande highlighted the Tinubu administration’s youth-focused agenda, particularly under the Renewed Hope initiative, which includes multiple youth empowerment programmes aimed at creating opportunities and fostering national unity.
