The Nigerian Government has extended warm congratulations to the United Republic of Tanzania on the occasion of its Union Day, commemorated on April 26.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the government highlighted the historical significance of the day, which marks the unification of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964.
The government described the union as a landmark achievement that laid a solid foundation for national cohesion, political stability, and socio-economic development in Tanzania.

The statement noted that Union Day stands as a testament to the foresight, unity, and resilience of the Tanzanian people in building a strong and united nation.
The government also commended Tanzania for its enduring commitment to peace, democratic governance, and regional cooperation across East Africa and the African continent.
It praised the country’s contributions to peacekeeping, conflict resolution, and development initiatives, which continue to support Africa’s broader goals of stability and prosperity.
Highlighting the cordial relations between both nations, Nigeria emphasized the mutually beneficial partnerships shared with Tanzania in areas such as trade, education, culture, tourism, and multilateral engagement.
Both countries, the statement added, maintain active collaboration within international bodies including the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN), working together to advance sustainable development, regional integration, and global peace.
On the occasion, Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Tanzania and expanding cooperation in areas of shared interest for the benefit of both nations.
The government further conveyed its best wishes to the Tanzanian government and its people, expressing hope for continued unity, peace, and national development.
