The Nigerian Government on Thursday expressed condolences to the Government of India following the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 in Ahmedabad.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, conveyed this in a statement issued by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Ministry’s spokesperson.
“Nigeria expresses profound sorrow and extends heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of India over the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 in Ahmedabad on 12 June 2025,” Tuggar stated.
“This devastating incident, which claimed the lives of over 290 people, has cast a shadow of mourning across the global community.
“Nigeria stands in solidarity with India in this time of immense grief and loss.”
He noted that while initial reports suggest no Nigerian citizen was aboard the flight, the Nigerian High Commission in New Delhi remains in close contact with Indian authorities to verify this and provide consular support where necessary.
“In this moment of shared sorrow, Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to global aviation safety and supports the call for a thorough investigation into the crash to help prevent such tragedies in future,” the minister added.
Tuggar also extended his sympathies to the families of the deceased and all those affected by the incident.
