Brazilian football star Neymar Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19, his club, Santos FC, confirmed on Saturday.
According to a statement from the club, Neymar began showing symptoms earlier in the week and was promptly withdrawn from all team activities. Medical tests conducted afterwards confirmed the infection.
Although Santos did not specify the expected duration of his recovery, Neymar was already suspended from the club’s next league fixture against Fortaleza due to a previous red card. That match will be the team’s last before the Brazilian Série A breaks for the Club World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the United States from 14 June to 13 July.

Neymar, who returned to Santos in January 2025, has had a season plagued by injuries. He has made only 12 appearances so far, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
His contract with Santos is due to expire on 30 June, leaving his future at the club uncertain.
