Leganés have been relegated from La Liga following a dramatic final day of the 2024/25 season, despite securing a convincing 3–0 win over Real Valladolid.
The Madrid-based side entered the final round of fixtures needing a victory and hoping for a slip-up from Espanyol. While they held up their end with an emphatic performance featuring goals from Javi Hernández, Yan Diomande, and Juan Cruz Espanyol’s 2–0 triumph over UD Las Palmas meant Leganés’ fate was sealed.
Espanyol ensured their top-flight survival thanks to a first-half penalty from Javi Puado and a second goal from Pere Milla, leaving Leganés two points adrift of safety.

The relegation marks a swift and painful return to the Segunda División for Leganés, who had only just earned promotion last season. Despite finishing with 40 points their third-best tally in top-flight history the club was unable to avoid the drop.
In contrast, Espanyol celebrated securing another season in La Liga, with their final-day performance ensuring they finished above the relegation zone.
For Leganés, the result is a bitter blow. The club will now be tasked with regrouping and rebuilding as they prepare for life back in the second tier, with hopes of mounting another promotion campaign in the near future.
