Nasarawa United Football Club on Sunday defeated Katsina United 2-0 in their Match Day Six fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The match, played at the Lafia Township Stadium the home ground of the Nasarawa State side  saw the hosts claim all three points.

Nasarawa United’s Anas Yusuf and Abubakar Abdullahi scored the decisive goals. Yusuf opened the scoring in the 45th minute, while Abdullahi sealed the victory with a strike in the 73rd minute.

With the win, the Solid Miners now top the table with 13 points, while Katsina United dropped to fourth with nine points.

Both teams created scoring opportunities, but Nasarawa United’s determination proved decisive.

Speaking after the game, Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United, Mbwas Mangut, expressed delight at securing maximum points against a tough opponent. He praised his players for preventing Katsina United from scoring and said the team’s gradual progress aligns with its season’s plans.

Mangut added that the NPFL season is “a marathon race that has just begun,” stressing that it is not yet time for celebration, but rather for planning and maintaining consistency.

On his part, Katsina United coach Azeez Mohammed admitted that the better side won, noting that his team would return to the drawing board to improve their conversion of chances in future matches.
