Napoli undoubtedly sealed the Serie A title on Friday night, securing a 2–0 victory over Cagliari at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, courtesy of goals from Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku.

The win handed Napoli their second Italian league crown in three years, and their fourth overall following a fierce title race with Inter Milan. Inter’s 2–0 win over Como, with goals from Stefan de Vrij and Joaquin Correa, was not enough, leaving them one point adrift.

McTominay put the hosts ahead just before half-time with a spectacular bicycle kick from Matteo Politano’s cross, igniting wild celebrations in the stands. Lukaku extended the lead early in the second half, holding off a defender and calmly slotting past Cagliari goalkeeper Alen Sherri.

The remainder of the match played out as a festival of celebration. Flares lit up the stands, smoke filled the pitch, and fireworks illuminated the Naples skyline as fans revelled in their team’s triumph.

For manager Antonio Conte, the title marked a personal milestone his third Serie A crown with as many clubs, having previously lifted the trophy with Juventus and Inter Milan.

“It’s happened again, and it’s something wonderful,” Conte told reporters. “Arriving at the stadium today was incredible—there were so many people. I did worry for a moment: if we let them down, it’s a burden we would carry for a long time.”

Conte watched from the stands due to a touchline suspension, but praised his players’ performance.

“All the credit goes to the boys. Winning in Naples is not easy, and they’ve done it for the second time in two years. This is a team of serious professionals players who know how to win.”

Napoli came out of the blocks quickly, nearly taking an early lead through Giacomo Raspadori, whose low drive from a corner skimmed just wide. Moments later, a dangerous cross narrowly evaded André-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

The home side created several chances, with Raspadori again threatening on the break, only to be denied by Sherri, who also saved Politano’s powerful follow-up effort.

Sherri proved a thorn in Napoli’s side for much of the first half, pulling off a series of excellent saves that kept the visitors in the match.

However, the atmosphere briefly dimmed around the 20-minute mark when news filtered through that Inter had gone ahead in Como, dampening spirits and Napoli’s momentum.

But once McTominay’s acrobatic strike hit the net, Napoli regained control and never looked back.
